Principal’s Update #1 Term 1

Good Afternoon Parents/Caregivers,
On behalf of all staff at KPS, I want to extend a warm welcome to all new and existing families to the 2023 school year. Over the last few weeks, we have been busily preparing our classrooms eagerly awaiting our students return. We aim to continue building on our successes over the last few years and making 2023 truly remarkable and special. There will be some exciting new changes to our whole school approaches, as well as continued upgrades to buildings, playgrounds and the physical environment. Our school community continues to grow with a massive influx of new enrolments over the past weeks. The first day of school is different for every child (and parent), there will be some nerves, excitement and anxiety. My administration and I will be on hand to make this transition as seamless as possible, particularly for our new families and our kindergarten students on their first day. I look forward to welcoming you all tomorrow.

Audio/Visual Upgrade
We have just had two brand new 85 inch screens installed in The Hall. These 4K screens will add an amazing element to our assemblies, concerts and graduation. The screens were paid in full by the P&C who raised the $22,000 for the purchase and installation of this new technology through their fantastic fundraisers in 2022. I want to thank the P&C on behalf of the school community for this amazing donation to our school.

Prime Mathematics
Please make sure your children are at school on time, as every morning from 9:00am – 10:00am will be ‘Primetime’! This means that every child at KPS will be engaged in our new whole school maths program at the same time. This program is based on the world leading Singapore Maths Model and research and data has proven it to be highly effective in Western Australian schools. Our entire staff will have professional learning in this new approach and will have the opportunity to visit other schools that have implemented it. There will be many children moving classes to ensure that their learning needs are being met.

Staffing
I would like to welcome Ms Chantelle Branley, who will be our new Year 4/5 teacher in Rm 6. Ms Branley joins us from West Byford Primary School where she taught for many years. We know Ms Branley will be a valuable asset to our school. Please make her feel welcome.

Over the holidays, Mr Campbell was employed at a new school to be closer to his children. Whilst we will miss him, we are very pleased for him to be able to have a better work/life balance. I wish Mr Campbell all the very best at his new school. Mr Travis Vandermeer will return to KPS in the music role which he did in 2021. It is very pleasing to employ someone with Mr Vandermeer’s skillset and knowledge of our school and students. Please make him feel welcome.

We also welcome back Ms Jade Braddow who will be returning from maternity leave three days a week in kindy. Ms Braddow is a fantastic teacher who is a great asset to our school.

Kind regards,

Jason Bushe-Jones
