Good Afternoon Parents/Carers,
We are nearing the half way point of Term 2 and we are starting to enter the wet and cold winter months. The cooler weather coincides with the dreaded cold and flu season, as we know this year we also have the COVID-19 virus circulating through our community. The combination of these three illnesses has begun to impact on our workforce with a higher number than usual rate of staff absenteeism. This situation is not unique to KPS, in fact the impact is being felt in all schools across the state. Over the coming weeks, it may become necessary to amalgamate classes when we are unable to source relief staff. I sincerely appreciate your support as we navigate through this challenging time.
NAPLAN
Our Year 3 & 5 students have been busily completing their NAPLAN tests over the last two weeks. It has been pleasing to see everyone trying their best, being resilient and persevering when it gets tricky. I want to say a massive thank you to Mr Hart who coordinated the tests over the last two weeks. It is a challenging, logistical effort and Mr Hart has completed the task without a hitch.
New Sports Uniforms
The new sports uniforms look absolutely sensational and have been a top selling item in the uniform shop. I want to thank Janine and Tina who have been working alongside me over the last 18 months to improve our uniforms. It has been a massive task, but has made a huge difference in our school’s revitalisation project. Please remember, they are only to be worn on Fridays.

Premier’s Reading Challenge & Book Fair
We invite students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to uncover great mysteries through the world of books and to sign up for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The challenge is to log 12 or more book titles from May to 9 September 2022, and readers will go in the draw to win extraordinary prizes. No matter where you are from, you can experience the joy of reading and explore thousands of amazing stories. Please visit https://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au/ for more information. The book fair starts next week in the library, which will provide a great opportunity to get in the mood for the reading challenge.
P&C Day
Today is P&C Day! This is a small way for schools to thank the wonderful work that our amazing volunteers do throughout the school. They not only fundraise, but run our canteen and uniform shop. We would truly be lost without them. The P&C are always looking for new members, if you are interested in joining we have our next meeting on Thursday 2 June at 7pm in the staff room. If you vote at KPS tomorrow, please support your school by buying a sausage sizzle whilst you exercise your democratic right.

OHSC
Our out of hours school care provider has started operating onsite at KPS. Numbers at the centre are now well and truly increasing. It is a great opportunity for your children to have a structured day care experience without having to leave the school grounds. Please contact them directly with them for more information on 9473 8402 or 9473 8407.
