Principal’s Update #3 Term 3

It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks at KPS with our students doing us proud at the Interschool Cross Country, the Year 6 camp and the wonderful book week celebrations yesterday. Next week we look forward to welcoming Wildcats MVP Bryce Cotton and Mitch Norton to run a basketball clinic with some of our students.

Father’s Day Breakfast and Paper Plane Competition

Next Friday (3 September), we will be holding our Father’s Day Paper Plane Competition from 8am in The Hall. We want to see as many Dads (or male influences) as possible to be involved in what will be a great morning. We will have the BBQ’s fired up and will be serving a hot breakfast. This event will be our relaunch of ‘The Fathering Project’ which we will be running as a school on a regular basis. To RSVP for the Father’s Day Breakfast and Paper Plane Competition please email your name and children’s name to Kelmscott.ps@education.wa.edu.au

PAT Testing

All students from PP-Yr 6 have been busy completing PAT Testing this week. The data that we gain from this allows us to track student progress in reading, grammar & punctuation, spelling and mathematics. This ensures that we can celebrate the success of our students and identify any gaps that we can target for further improvements.

Book Week

In true KPS style our students and staff got right behind the dress up day on Thursday. It was fantastic to see all the wonderful costumes and enthusiasm our students have for reading. As usual, the book parade was really well attended by our community which is always greatly appreciated.

Interschool Cross Country

Students from Year 3-6 did our school proud with excellent behaviour and great sportsmanship at last Friday’s Interschool Cross Country. As one of the smallest competing schools in the competition we continue to punch well above our weight with an overall placing of fourth. Special mentions to Billy who won the Year 3 boys race, Lincoln who was second in Year 4 boys race and Linda who was second in the Year 4 girls race.

Out of School Hours Care

I have run a transparent process for qualified providers to run our OSHC program in 2022. After consideration from all providers who made proposals, we decided that the YMCA offered the best service that would be engaging for your children and affordable for families. We are now progressing this with the Government and drawing up a leasing agreement. More information will follow on this.

Awesome Evening

Planning is well underway for what promises to be a fantastic night on Thursday 21 October. This will be an event to celebrate our school and officially open our new quad area. Each class will host a special stall and the P&C will be heavily involved. We will have a choir performance, smoking ceremony, string ensemble, and then have Dr Tony Buti MLA cut the ribbon. Stay tuned for more information in the lead up to the date.

Enrolments

We have had a steady flow of enrolments for 2022 Kindergarten. If you haven’t already done so, please enrol now to avoid missing out on a place.
