Principal’s Update #4 Term 2

Good Afternoon Parents/Carers,

We are on the home stretch of what has been a challenging semester. It has been so pleasing to see how our staff, students and community have been so resilient. I am proud that we were able to manage the COVID interruptions well and as a result, minimise disruptions to your children’s learning.

NAIDOC Week

We will be celebrating NAIDOC Week from 27 June to 1 July. The theme for this year is ‘Get up! Stand Up! Show up!’ We have many great activities planned including an assembly for our community to attend. I would like to thank our AIEO Roxy who has been busy organising what promises to be a great week.

Winter Carnival

Today our students have proudly represented KPS in the winter carnival. This included football, soccer, netball and hockey. The weather has threatened to be a factor all day, but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of all the students in attendance. All teams placed really well in the overall standings, with our hockey team bringing home the shield for a fifth straight year! Mrs McIntosh did an amazing job preparing the team during lunch times (as did all the coaches).

Cyber Safety Information Session

We are pleased to be hosting a cyber-safety information session this Wednesday evening at 6pm. This is a must for all parents with children growing up in the digital sphere. A member from the Australian Federal Police and an Industry Cyber Threat Specialist will be presenting an evidence based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated online child sexual exploitation material, online grooming, image-based abuse, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.

Reports

Teachers are very busy completing their semester reports which will go home on Tuesday 28 June. Most children will receive their grades and a comment in mathematics, English and an overall general comment that outlines their attitude, behaviour and effort. However, there may be some students who due to low attendance may have been unable to be assessed.

School Board

The School Board are our governing body and do a fantastic job of working alongside us with our school improvement agenda. The Board is made up of school staff, parents/carers and community members who all have a common purpose in wanting the best environment for our students. Our next meeting will be on 16 August from 4pm-6pm in the library. This meeting will be open to the public, we encourage you to come along and get a firsthand look at how we operate. You may even decide to nominate for a position on the Board.

Winter Uniforms

Can you please ensure that your children wear school jackets and jumpers? Our new designs look fantastic and promote the school in a positive light. If you don’t have a school jacket or jumper please send your child in a plain blue one without name brands etc.

OHSC

Our out of hours school care provider has started operating onsite at KPS. It is a great opportunity for your children to have a structured day care experience without having to leave the school grounds. Please contact them directly for more information on 9473 8402 or 9473 8407.
