Principal’s Update #5 Term 2

Good Afternoon Parents/Carers,

We have made it to the half way point of a very busy year at KPS, I’m sure your children are looking forward to a well-earned 2 week break. This semester, we have navigated through the COVID restrictions and interruptions and come out the other side galvanised and ready for an amazing second half of 2022. I hope that you are able to take some time to relax and enjoy some special memories with your children over the holidays. Student will return to school on Tuesday 19 July.

Goodbye Ms M

As you would be aware our substantive deputy principal, Ms Aleesha Meuleners has been on maternity leave since December last year. She wasn’t due to return to KPS until 2023, however, she recently applied and won a position at a brand new school being built in Wellard. I want to personally thank and acknowledge Ms M for the amazing job she did whilst at KPS. She will be sorely missed, but we are so proud of her for achieving this fantastic career opportunity. We will advertise for a substantive deputy principal in Term 3.

NAIDOC Week

We have had an amazing week of celebrations to acknowledge NAIDOC with our wonderful AIEO Roxy organising an amazing array of activities for our students and community to be immersed in. We started the week with a special assembly with traditional dances and a digeridoo player. All students were involved in a poster competition and made ‘yarning sticks’. Our aim in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is to have cultural immersion and awareness embedded in all areas of our school. We continue to work towards these goals with our ‘RAP’ team, NAIDOC is just one way that we celebrate our Aboriginal culture.

140th Celebrations

Our school turns 140 this year and to celebrate we have organised three major events for Semester 2. On Tuesday 30 August there will be a Pioneer Day dress up and picnic. On 13 October, we will have the Mucky Duck Bush Band in for a night of fun and entertainment and on 16 November, we will have our official celebration day. We are only the second school in Perth to achieve this phenomenal milestone and we plan to make it as special as possible. We have a KPS 140th Facebook page for all the latest information please give it a ‘like’.

Reports

It was my privilege to read through all the wonderful achievements our students have made this semester. It was a monumental task for teachers to provide a full report given the interruptions that we had over the reporting period. If you have any questions relating to your child’s report, please contact the classroom teacher directly.

School Board

The School Board are our governing body and do a fantastic job of working alongside us with our school improvement agenda. The Board is made up of school staff, parents/carers and community members who all have a common purpose in wanting the best environment for our students. Our next meeting will be on 16 August from 4pm-6pm in the library. This meeting will be open to the public, we encourage you to come along and get a firsthand look at how we operate. You may even decide to nominate for a position on the Board.

Canteen Manager

This term we say goodbye to our long standing canteen manager Karen. I want to thank Karen for her hard work and dedication to the KPS canteen and wish her all the best for the future. I would like to acknowledge Brendon Shirriff who has stepped in and done a fantastic job as manager whilst Karen has been off. I would also like to thank the P&C and all the wonderful volunteers for their great work in keeping the canteen running during this transition period. We are advertising for new canteen manager to begin in Term 3.

Winter Uniforms

Can you please ensure that your children wear school jackets and jumpers? Our new designs look fantastic and promote the school in a positive light. If you don’t have a school jacket or jumper please send your child in a plain blue one without name brands etc.

OHSC

Our out of hours school care provider has started operating onsite at KPS. It is a great opportunity for your children to have a structured day care experience without having to leave the school grounds. Please contact them directly for more information on 9473 8402 or 9473 8407.
