Principal’s Update #1 Term 4

Dear Parents/Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are already in Term 4 and what a jam-packed 10 weeks we have planned. For our Year 6 students, it will be their last term at KPS before embarking on their secondary schooling journey. I know it will be a special time for them with a wonderful graduation ceremony planned later in the term.

Kindy Expo
Last Friday we welcomed our newest families to KPS with the annual ‘Kindy Expo’, which was really well attended. At the expo we had a variety of stalls set out for parents to visit. I want to thank Mrs Higgins for organising this brilliant event and the canteen for catering. Next Friday we begin our series of orientation days where next year’s kindies will attend a morning session with their families.

OHSC 2024 and Beyond
I am pleased to announce that we have a new ‘Out of Hours School Care’ centre opening at KPS in 2024 called ‘Their Care’. Their Care made an impressive bid in our tender process that promises a quality service at an affordable price. We look forward to working in partnership with them. If you want to register your child please visit www.theircare.com.au or call 0461268645. I want to take this opportunity to thank the YMCA for providing our students with OHSC services over the last two years.

Class Lists 2024
Behind the scenes we have been busily preparing for the 2024 school year. We have our recruitment processes finalised and our enrolment projections completed. If you have any special requests for 2024, please email me directly at Jason.bushe-jones@education.wa.edu.au. Please be cognisant that teachers often move year levels, so just because a teacher is teaching a certain year level this year, it doesn’t mean they will be next year. Whilst we try to accommodate reasonable requests, these can never be guaranteed.

Swimming
We have two weeks of swimming coming up which is a great opportunity for your children to learn the essential skills required to be safe around water. Students will need to come to school in their bathers and get changed when they arrive back at school after their lesson. Please label their towels and bathers as many items tend to get lost during the swimming lesson period.

Hot Weather
It seems that summer has come early this year with some really warm days over the last two weeks. Please make sure that your child has a KPS hat and a water bottle. We are a sun smart school, so any student who doesn’t have a hat will need to play in The Hall.

Attendance
There is a concerning trend of students that seem to be missing a lot of school time for birthdays, holidays, going home early and just general days off. Every school day is important, so unless your child is too unwell, please ensure they are at school.

Playgroup at KPS
Our playgroup service is now operating in the OSH building. This new initiative aims to bring our youngest community members into our school to make some new friends and enjoy playing together. It is also an opportunity for parents/carers to meet some new families in a casual and friendly environment. Children aged 0-5 are welcome to attend.
