Principal’s Update #1 Term 3

Dear Parents/Carers,
Term 3 has got off to a smooth (albeit wet) start with so many great events in our first few weeks. The weather has played spoilsport with our cross-country today but we will reschedule for next Friday (fingers crossed it will be drier). The Year 6 students are in full preparation for their camp at Woodman’s Point next Tuesday and are looking forward to a jam packed four days of abseiling, zip lining, climbing and team building.

Deputy Principal Selection Process
As you may be aware, Mr Hart is off to Cocos Islands District High School on a three year contract. I wish him all the very best for what will be a wonderful experience. We now have the task of finding a suitable replacement. We have advertised the position on the JobsWA website and will have the process completed by Week 6.

Cyber Safety Workshops
We are fortunate enough to have WA Police joining us for some vitally important workshops relating to cyber safety for all students from Year 1-6. It is vitally important that we equip our children with the knowledge and skills to stay safe online and still be able to utilise the resources afforded to them in the digital realm. These workshops will happen in Week 4.

Energize
Our K-PP students are enjoying a wonderful ‘Energize’ program designed to teach them how to dance to fun and funky beats. This is a great opportunity to develop gross motor skills and have loads of fun whilst doing it.

Public School Review
All schools in the Government sector are required to be reviewed externally. This is to ensure that the operations of the school meet the expectations outlined in ‘The School Improvement and Accountability Framework’. We have been pencilled in for our review this term, however, this may change due to a backlog on missed reviews from recent COVID restrictions. During our Staff Development Day, members of our school board and P&C assisted in the review process by being involved in the community relationships and partnerships component. KPS is constantly self-assessing and welcomes the review as an opportunity to showcase the wonderful things that are happening in and around the school.

School Board
The School Board are our governing body and do a fantastic job of working alongside us with our school improvement agenda. The Board is made up of school staff, parents/carers and community members who all have a common purpose in wanting the best environment for our students. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 16 August from 4pm-6pm in the library. This meeting will be open to the public, we encourage you to come along and get a firsthand look at how we operate. You may even decide to nominate for a position on the Board.

Winter Uniforms
Can you please ensure that your children wear school jackets and jumpers? Our new designs look fantastic and promote the school in a positive light. If you don’t have a school jacket or jumper please send your child in a plain blue one without name brands etc.

OHSC
Our out of hours school care provider has started operating onsite at KPS. It is a great opportunity for your children to have a structured day care experience without having to leave the school grounds. Please contact them directly for more information on 9473 8402 or 9473 8407.
