It’s hard to believe it is already Week 4! We have enjoyed a fantastic start to Term 3 with students settling into their routines nicely. I know the Year 6’s are very excited to be going on their camp to Woodman’s Point tomorrow. I’m sure they will have an amazing time, fingers crossed the weather is kind to them.
Leadership Team Professional Learning
Mr Hart, Ms M and myself will be on leadership professional learning over the next three days. In our absence, I would like to welcome Mrs Gail Baker who will be in my role whilst we are away. Mrs Baker is an experienced principal who often fills in when leadership teams are on leave or professional learning. I know you will all make her feel welcome as you see her around the school over the next three days.
The weather gods were extremely kind to us last Friday with a perfect 22 degree day. With the Olympics on in Tokyo, all KPS students from K-Yr 6 got in the running spirit and gave their very best. Cross Country running is all about challenging and pushing yourself to do your personal best. I was proud of our students’ efforts in what was some very competitive races. A big thank you to the wonderful Mr Donohue on his organisation of this event.
Out of School Hours Care
It is my intention to run an Out of School Hours Care program at KPS starting in 2022. This will include before and after school care as well as a school holiday program that will be run by fully qualified and accredited service providers. I believe this will be a huge benefit to our students who will avoid going to off-site providers and for parents to have convenience at drop off and pick up. The care that will be offered at KPS will be eligible for the government rebate scheme.
Mr Hart has begun the robotics program with selected Year 5/6 students. This special program is not only a lot of fun but also provides our students with opportunities to develop their programming and coding skills. KPS students have always been highly competitive in the interschool robotics competition in Term 4. We look forward to seeing that continue this year.
Mr Grace has been busy getting our school signed up to The Fathering Project. We have a special Father’s Day event coming up in Week 7 to kick off this great program. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks.
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a community event on Thursday 21 October from 5pm to 7pm. This will be a night to celebrate our school and officially open our new quad area. Each class will host a stall and the P&C will be heavily involved. We will have a choir performance, smoking ceremony and then Dr Tony Buti MLA to cut the ribbon. Planning is well underway to make this a special night for all KPS families and community. Plenty more information will be provided in coming weeks.
