Principals Update

Principal’s Update #4 Term 2

We have so much to squeeze into our last two weeks of term with camp, lego/pizza night, silent disco and reports to go home. We wouldn’t have it any other way though, as we want to keep providing as many opportunities for our students and community as possible.

Interschool Winter Carnival
We are so proud of all the KPS students that represented our school yesterday and demonstrated exemplary behaviour, attitude and teamwork. I want to thank Mr Donohue, Mrs McIntosh, Mr Grace, Mrs Branley, Mr Schwass and all the others that assisted in coaching these teams. Many of these teachers gave up their lunchtimes to provide their team with extra training. The hard work paid off with the KPS footy team taking out the crown for the very first time. Well done to these superstars who went through the day with 5 wins. The KPS Hockey team won the interschool carnival for a record 6th straight time! Mrs Mac does an amazing job of getting this team working together and has made winning this trophy a habit. Soccer and Netball were equally terrific and played highly competitively throughout the day. The teachers involved have noticed an increase in student fitness since we have been doing our physical quotient testing and daily fitness regime.

Camp
Year 6 students will attend their four day camp to Woodman’s Point in Week 10. This camp is always a highlight for both students and staff every year. Student’s have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities such as zip lining, abseiling, archery, orienteering and mountain bike riding. Camp also brings the students together as closer group and strengthens their relationships with their peers and teachers. Mrs Aim, Mrs Higgins and I look forward to coming along at certain times to enjoy the experience as well. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us and we stay dry.

PBS Reward
Our PBS reward this term is a silent disco! All students that have maintained their good standing are invited to come along to this fun activity that is always a huge hit. Our PBS values of respect, responsibility, safety and pride are always important but particularly in the last few weeks of term when we become a bit tired and irritated. We look forward to finishing the term strong and then enjoying a well-earned rest.

Attendance
The cold/flu/COVID season has definitely affected student attendance this term. However, there is a concerning trend of students that seem to be missing a lot of school time for birthdays, holidays and just general days off. Every school day is important, so unless your child is too unwell, please ensure they are at school.

New Playgroup at KPS
Our new playgroup service is now operating in the OSH building. This new initiative aims to bring our youngest community members into our school to make some new friends and enjoy playing together. It is also an opportunity for parents/carers to meet some new families in a casual and friendly environment. Children aged 0-5 are welcome to attend.

Please email Samantha.higgins3@education.wa.edu.au for more information.

OHSC
Our out of hours school care provider has started operating onsite at KPS. It is a great opportunity for your children to have a structured day care experience without having to leave the school grounds. Please contact them directly with them for more information on 9473 8402 or 9473 8407.
