Principal’s Update #2 Term 4

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are on our final day of swimming which I think for you at home and us at school, we will all breathe a sigh of relief. I want to thank you for ensuring your children were prepared everyday as I know how challenging this can be. If your child is attending the disco tonight, I’m sure they will be tired afterwards after 2 weeks of lessons.

Teaching Staff 2024
I am pleased to announce the following individuals have been offered teaching positions at Kelmscott Primary School (Fixed Term & Permanent)

  • Ms Sara Skjold
  • Ms Chantelle Branley
  • Mr Reid Mullin (Dawson Park PS)
  • Mr Niall Harrison (Orange Grove PS)
  • Mr Daniel Grace
  • Ms Roslyn Gazely
  • Ms Ashley Boulton (Manning PS)
  • Mr Travis Vandermeer

With our growth in enrolments, we will have one extra class (Room 5).

Please join me in congratulating these great people on their appointments. We have a great team, and it looks like it will only get better. You will know your child’s 2024 class before the end of the year.

3 Year Old Pre-Kindy
Ms Higgins and I recently met with Jade Beattie who is a coordinator with the CPC (Child and Parent Centre) to discuss our plans for the 3 Year Old Kindy program that will run at Kelmscott Primary School from 2024. We are really excited with what the program will look like and are just working through the fine details. I want to thank Ms Higgins for her leadership in making this opportunity a reality.

OHSC 2024 and Beyond
I am pleased to announce that we have a new ‘Out of Hours School Care’ centre opening at KPS in 2024 called ‘Their Care’. Their Care made an impressive bid in our tender process that promises a quality service at an affordable price. We look forward to working in partnership with them. If you want to register your child, please visit www.theircare.com.au or call 0461268645. I want to take this opportunity to thank the YMCA for providing our students with OHSC care over the last two years.

Public School Review
Our Public School Review will be on Wednesday 15 November. The review process will include a member of the Public School Review team coming out with a peer reviewer to verify our findings against 6 domains. We are really excited and believe that we have a very successful narrative to share. Once completed, the review findings will be available to the public.

Class Lists 2024
Behind the scenes we have been busily preparing for the 2024 school year. We have our recruitment processes finalised and our enrolment projections completed. If you have any special requests for 2024, please email me directly at Jason.bushe-jones@education.wa.edu.au. Please be cognisant that teachers often move year levels, so just because a teacher is teaching a certain year level this year, it doesn’t mean they will be next year. Whilst we try to accommodate reasonable requests, these can never be guaranteed.

Hot Weather
It seems that summer has come early this year with some really warm days over the last two weeks. Please make sure that your child has a KPS hat and a water bottle. We are a sun smart school, so any student who doesn’t have a hat will need to play in The Hall.

Attendance
There is a concerning trend of students that seem to be missing a lot of school time for birthdays, holidays and just general days off. Every school day is important, so unless your child is too unwell, please ensure they are at school.

Playgroup at KPS
Our playgroup service is now operating in the OSH building. This new initiative aims to bring our youngest community members into our school to make some new friends and enjoy playing together. It is also an opportunity for parents/carers to meet some new families in a casual and friendly environment. Children aged 0-5 are welcome to attend.

Please email Samantha.higgins3@education.wa.edu.au for more information.
